Learn-Arduboy Workshop

Designed as a workshop for middle to high school age students (12-18), this project was launched as a pilot program with the “Arduboys for School” initiative (now paused). The workshop premiered in October 2019 at a local library with great success. A “Teach the Teacher” followup session was held in February 2020 with plans to host additional workshops in neighboring libraries. Those plans are also currently on hold.

Edit: Closing this post since I kinda think I should struggle a bit and really make a game stylistically myself first and then get feedback afterwards. Getting feedback every step of the way seems a little iffy to me. Personal decision.

Any improvements with this title screen? The little whale not apart of the text might be my sprite which moves around the playing field.

  1. Does the title “Li’l Beluga” text look detailed enough?

  2. Does the whale’s sprite demensions, not within the title, allow for enough space for emotions such as happiness or content?

I am not super great at etiquette for images so if there are questions or requests to better help you help me I’ll see what I can do within GIMP.

Any way to buy replacement front piece of arduboy?

There is this annoying scratch like thing in the inside of the front acrylic of my Arduboy that I can see while playing on it. It drove me crazy before, but it was more bareable since I wouldn’t be playing as much. But considering the Arduboy FX upgrade is gonna come out here, I want to be sure my arduboy is going to be the best it can be for playing it before I considering soldering it onto it.

Is there any way for me to buy a front part?

The site appears to be down now. I can’t find another reasonable uploader for the Arduboy that works. Looks like I have a pocket-sized paper-weight. Super pissed.

Need some help with ProjectABE

So I’ve got a slight problem with ProjectABE. Some time ago @SamSibbens released some code for his unfinished game (the hack’n’slash game). I thought about programming it further as programming myself is the best way of learning and I liked his idea a lot. Now I imported it to ProjectABE and I get a huge error message in the Log-Part.

The error message:

(I hope it’s visible…)

Advice would be very helpful since my programming knowlede only consists of Java.

Arduboy FX Activator

Pong - Just learning the ropes

Hi Everyone,

I more or less finished my first attempt at making a game for the arduboy. It is a very simple clone of pong, which includes a 1 player and 2 player mode and a few options to change the difficulty, In the future I might add a few things, but for now I will probably start working on something more difficult. Hope everyone enjoys.

Controls:
A: Player 2 down or Select
B: Player 2 up
UP: Player 1 up
Down: player 1 down
Right: change option
Left: change option or PAUSE

Making Animations

Hello everybody, I am making a simple coin flip animation. This is what I’ve made so far, my question is: is there a better way of doing this? I like cartoons and I have a feeling that I’m going to use a lot of animations - probably to my detriment.

Some more problems concerning ProjectABE

So, once again I have a problem with the Emulator (slowly I start wondering wether it was a good idea to use it anyway). This time it seems ABE is unable to implement certain libraries such as <StandardCplusplus.h> or <system_configuration.h>. When using them in the IDE it works absolutely fine but in ABE it just throws an exception that these files do not exist.

Little bit of background why I’m even using ABE:
In school we have to program software using microcontrollers as a base. Our teacher isn’t the youngest anymore and has serious problems with his vision (even when wearing glasses he sometimes can’t read things) so I want to present him my project on a monitor (as we all know the Arduboy screen is not the biggest ^^)

EEPROM Crusade - Fixing the games that overwrite reserved EEPROM

Following the conversation that started here:

I’m going to attempt to fix some of the games that are overwritting the reserved EEPROM bytes - i.e. bytes 0 through 15, the first 16 EEPROM bytes.

I have no idea how long this ‘crusade’ will last.
(Probably either until I get bored of it or my help is needed elsewhere.)

Hopefully others will help out by reporting other broken games, helping to track down source code or (for Gamebuino ports) providing replacements.

Current status

I can’t actually find a forum post or source code for Crabator, TinyDepth, Armageddon, Jezzball, WHG, Big Black Box, Digger, Solitaire, Uforace.

(I’m beginning to question who actually ported all these Gamebuino games - the all have the bug and they’re all missing source code and forum entries.)

Fanboat has code, but doesn’t really specify a proper licence and there’s no GitHub page, which means I’m going to have to try to contact the author to negotiate a fix.

Calender’s problem seems to be that it’s actually trying to write too much to EERPOM rather than explicitly overwriting the reserved area.
Although looking at the source, I only count 114 bytes being used.

I’ve had a quick look at Harambe’s Revenge.
Figuring out if there’s an actual error or not is not a clear cut task - the logic has to be unpicked first.

Evade seems fixable.
I’ve raised an issue on the GitHub,
but if they don’t reply within the next few days I’ll make a fork with a fix or something.

Arduloop seems fixable.
I’ve raised an issue on the GitHub,
but if there’s no reply it’s going to take a while to fix the logic.

The ‘Tiny’ series of games by Akkera102 all seem fixable.
I’m going to wait until I have time to compose an explanation in the author’s native language (Japanese) before raising an issue or contacting them.

Starduino is completely closed source, so only the author can fix it (and may already have done so? I seem to recall a conversation about it).

Why should I need to convert an angle as radians

Hi everyone,

When I started to mess around with the arduboy, I did not think at the time it would be so challenging to go back to mathematics. Which is a great thing, I guess, because I have a lot to learn.

So, I have a triangle represented by 3 lines between 3 points. I know there is a method drawTriangle(), but I just want to make it more… “raw”.

When I press the left and right arrow, the triangle should rotates from its center. I found the formula to make it rotate from the origin (0,0). So I understood I need to translate it, make it rotate, the translate back. But for what the topic is about, let’s it make rotate around the origin.

I have an angle attribute on my triangle object, which give me the actual angle. I want this angle to be in degrees (0 to 360);

Every time you press left or right, I add / subtract 1 to the angle attribute of my triangle object.

I have this formulas to rotate one point of the triangle :

Since the Attiny84 and Attiny841 are available in QFN, would their be any advantage to a version of the “mod chip” with additional peripheral such as hardware I2c/Serial? The pinout is slightly different than the 85 but integrating shouldn’t be a problem.

Hi Arduboy Developers,

Let’s say you have an object that moves in 1-pixel increments across the screen. It’s animated and looks smooth 1-pixel at a time. But you want to vary its speed. You can’t change the increment, it has to stay at 1-pixel. So this makes me think of everyXFrames, but is there a better way?

Hi everyone, with the help of arduboy experts on Internet i decided to make my own model.

Below are the items that is used.

1.Arduino pro micro
2. Monochrome 7-pin SSD1306 0.96” OLED display
3.old Nokia mobile lion battery, it gives 30 hours of play time
4. 6x6 push tactile buttons (1 restart button is must)
5. Old mobile speaker
6. 1 micro switch button for on off.

Size of the console is 5x3.5x1 CM only.

There is a border so you know where to go and not to go

Extra Fixes:
Border is more constricted so you can’t hide on the edge like a snake in grass
